Studying a critical zone encompasses expertise from various fields who work upon to reach a same central idea. Studies related to critical zone are at nascent stage at global scale and almost nonexistent for the Indian landscape.
Iam not so well read on this. What is the conceptual base for the Critical Zone? Can we consider geographies/ zones/ communities vulnerable to natural and anthropogenic induced hazards as critical zones? If that is the case, I had some experience working in the coastal villages of Gujarat, particularly, looking at the coastal salinity induced problems and livelihood effects.
Dr. Dan Richter of Duke University is the lead of many scientists looking into the Holcombe Branch site within the Tyger River subbasin contained within the Sumter National Forest in South Carolina. I would suggest you contact him. I am not in my computer, but will send if I have any specific information stored on the subject, goals, intent, etc. The critical zone studies are located at various sites throughout the world, representing specific physiographic ecosystems.
