does anybody know, how to interpret this results, please?
We measured AhR activation with HepG2 Lucia AhR cells, we used different concentrations of our compound and FICZ as an AhR activator. Our compound decreased AhR activation caused by FICZ, but I don´t understand how can be activation of AhR lower, than control (2.-5. column)? It was measured three times in triplicates, and always same result..
Can any compound bind to AhR but not activate it?
mRNA level of AhR was not affected by this compound..

you have triplicates if you make statistics, maybe lanes 2-5 are not different from control... or it can be an effect of the vehicule you used to dilute your compound...
I would interpret your data this way: "The AhR activation in HepG2-Lucia cells was increased when treated with FICZ, however the increase was diminished when treated with the testing compound "X" at 10uM, 0.5mM, or 1mM.
Unexpectedly, when HepG2-Lucia hepatoma cells were treated solely with compound "X", the AhR activation was significantly decreased at 0.5mM and 1mM compared with control group."
I would recommend adding statistics and p value.
