Carl Jung's Electra complex is a fallacy and one of the shortcomings within his corpus. Jung was inspired by Freud's Oedipus complex and attempted to establish a theoretical ground where the female version of Oedipus complex is analyzed with the same circumstances. That is so because Jung, unfortunately, and like most the academics, had read Freud‘s Oedipal theory in anatomical and biological terms; that is, he read the theory in a simple frame that portrays it as a conflict between the son and the father to possess the mother. Oedipus complex, however, should be read in structural terms, it should be read as developmental sequence where a subject is given a position within the family and, so to speak, within the society. Hence, if we are to read Electra complex in structural terms, then I argue that it becomes a fallacy. For the sake of Jung's theory validity, the society should be matriarchal where the mother is the delegate of the social code. As such, the mother as she possesses the father should be envied by the daughter like in Oedipal theory. However, no society is matriarchal. all the societies by definition are patriarchal where the mother is possessed by the father and this, at least for me, rules out Jung's Electra complex.
