I simulated RC beam in ANSYS apdl15, but the deflection in midspan ANSYS I got is 5.26mm, which is 10.7mm in experimental.
Give me more info about your model. Material properties, convergence settings, nonlinear parameters, etc. It will be easy to solve such a problem.
By the way, I think there is something strange about your experimental results. Why does it show a negative deflection at start?
Something must be wrong with FE model, provided all other things are correct.
What kind of mesh are using? Have you tried resizing the mesh to see if the same deflection was obtained?
@william: Im using sweep. Yes I did, but not much different...If you could help me, I can email you the APDL file.
I find that when modelling RC in ANSYS it can be better to use line divisions when generating the mesh. Do you have a batch file which you could send to me? I'll try get a look at it before the end of the week. Regards
If you are not doing that already then its better to go for displacement controlled loading instead of force controlled. Also if you are modeling using SOLID65 legacy element then there will be high probability of solution non convergence if cracking and crushing are activated. Also this element is highly sensitive to the mesh size used, you can deactivate cracking and crushing of the element by setting them values of (-1) and then solve just to see if this is the reason behind non convergence. Also you can include stress relaxation by changing key option #7 value to 1 to help with convergence. In general it's tricky to get SOLID65 element to converge with both cracking and crushing activated, the load (displacement controlled) should be applied at a very slow rate with a fine mesh. You can try the newly developed Microplane model using SOLID185 with damage elasticity/plasticity or with CPT215 coupled damage plasticity.
