Can you share the Abaqus model (*.inp)? What is the objective function? What about constraints?

simply you need to define NDS (Non design Space) for the black circled region, region where you would like to optimize should be DS (Design space).

Tamer Qaimari Thank you for the reply. But I want my shape (red) to be optimized to keep the two black marked points parallel. My optimized shape should be the result of keeping two black circled points parallel. So will it be right to consider those points under NDS?

since it is you do not want to do changes to the Black shape then it is correct to put it off course in NDS, stiffness will be counted and you will get the result without changing them, if i have time on weekend i will generate similar shape and simulate and show you the results it should be very easy.

There is a lot of Examples for this simple Optimization Problem, please practice them and you will get the missing point.

In my humble opinion you should start with minimizing the squared difference of vertical displacements subjected to a weight constraint.
