Convalescent plasma refers to plasma from an individual who has recovered from an infection. It is a means of antibody transfer to provide passive immunity (neutralizing antibodies against the infectious pathogen) until the individual can develop an active immune response, with the hope that clinical outcomes can be improved in the recipient. It is not routinely available, nor is it a licensed FDA product; instead, it has been made available for specific agents at times of disease epidemics or pandemics.Once an epidemic has subsided, convalescent plasma is likely to become unavailable.

We need at least one year to develop the vaccine but in pandemics , some research centers and healthcare institutes try to accelerate this process but we need to be sure this acceleration not lead to low vaccine quality.

Although people who have recovered from COVID-19 disease caused by Coronavirus named SARS-CoV-2 by developing antibodies (IgM, followed by IgG), whether these Immunoglobulins are protective is not yet clear. The doubts remain because of reports of redetection of the SARS-CoV-2 in many patients in China, South Korea and other countries after apparent recovery from COVID-19.
Many countries including USA (1), hard pressed due to economic meltdown were thinking of giving immunity cards in recovered patients based on antibody testing.
However, WHO, has warned against this policy fearing that such it may cause a second surge of COVID-19 pandemic because of doubts of the type of immunity in recovered patients.(2)
