I am shopping for an arginase 1 antibody to use for IHC-paraffin experiments with rat tissue. So far what I have understood is that if an antibody says it is reactive with rat, this could have been just verified with a western blot, not necessarily an IHC method.
Has anyone out there used arginase 1 in any type of rat tissue recently? If so, could you please send me enough details so I may find the company product datasheet?
If you have any other helpful info when it comes to shopping for antibodies, please let me know. I have CD11c, CD163, and iNOS coming up next in my list.

Usually, companies varify the usage of antibodies for different techniques. If a company verified its application suitable for only WB, it may or may not work on IHC-P or any other techniques. Actually, it completely depends on the position of the epitope in the 3D protein against which the antibody was generated. If it is easily available for the antigen-antibody reaction it may work or else it may not.

I don't have any experience with arginase 1, but I can recommend you a webpage for antibody searches:

It provides a lot of filters. Try to make it as specific as possible --> primary antibody/ application / reactivity (in your case rat) / host species (for combinatory stainings)
Look for monoclonal antibodies if there are still a lot of options.
Step two is then to go to the respective supplier pages, look at the images and, if applicable, customer reviews and literature. I try to write down used protocols and concentrations at this point. Lower concentrations = in effect a cheaper antibody. Protocol similar to what you use = less work for establishment.
I prefer already published antibodies, if the images from the paper show a good signal.
If you find one from Abcam, you can usually trust the customer reviews (4 or 5 star antibodies always gave me a nice signal).
To be fair, it can take up some time to find the perfect antibody, but considering the costs and your work time, it is worth it.
