UV irradation is known to induce thymine dimers, however uv-irradiated fish eggs serve as a platform for generating androgenetic clones and complete embryonic development similar to normal development. My point is mitochondrial DNA which is inherited from the mother doesn't get genetically inactivated but may possess adequate information stored to drive the embryonic development along with the egg cytoplasm.
Using effective UV irradiation of the fish eggs, many invalid /abnormal larvaewill hatch out, because the UV damages the DNA stuctures of the embryos.
but my question is there will be live and healthy androgenotes of exclusively paternal inheritance. does that mean the egg DNA will be supplemented by mitochondrial DNA to support embryonic development or that too will be damaged by the UV irradiation?
It is not true that egg cytoplasm has all the essential factors to complete embryonic development. Please think about what happens with the enucleated fish egg: no embryo development without functional nucleus. An other important factor is the dosage of the UV. Mitochondrial DNA - as a circular one - is probably more stabile than the chromosomal. The UV's role is at low dosage is probably destroying the mitotic apparatus rather than direct the chromosomes.
Depend from species you could have difficulties inactivating DNA by UV. Due to low transparency of eggs for UV-light. Therefore for large eggs, X-rays are more preferable.
Nevertheless androgenesis was successfully induced by UV-light in many species. It seems that the female genetical information doesn't participated in development of those individuals.
However it wasn't proved unequivocally that female chromosomal or mitochondrial DNA don't influence on development.
