I was doing a presentation and was asked a question that I have no idea the answer is. I presented the fact that 95% of adults have latent infection of EBV. Someone asked that if that was the case then how come none of her cell lines didn't test positive for EBV? She said that they test using a PCR test. Not sure why this would be the case since it seems to contradict that fact?
You need to be more precise about the experiment: what cell-line was used? Where are the cells from (e.g. bone marrow?) Was the PCR (and the nucleic acid isolation) to detect RNA or DNA? Are you looking in the lytic phase or in the latent phase?
well oocytes and sperm is also not EBV positive. The virus doe snot infect every cell of a body as all virusses need certain surface receptors to detect target cells. It is the same for every virus, noone is infecting every cell of your body but only specific types
