you need to read books of pharmacognosy, make your own collection of drugs, refer to monographs, give to the student classes for all drugs listed in pharmacopoeia and explain to them that pharmacognosy help to fight against fraud, poisoning, and allows pharmacists to be able to sell pharmaceutical herbals in a safe way. For exams, make it an oral examination with 20 drugs.
Try to explain your lecture by correlating their daily requirement of herbal products in their life.
You may start with kitchen for tea in morning and end it with mosquito coil used in night.
Then try to correlate these herbals with active principle involved in activity.
Very good approach suggested by previous posters. I used to make the lecture interesting by adding something which is not available in the textbooks which the students use normally. You may get such things from the internet related to specific topics or drugs and tell them to students for making it a bit more interesting.
You need enrich the medicinal plant database and show to your student how useful it to improve their knowledge about pharmacognosy.
