I agree with Paolo, as Pharmacognosy include a wide range of studies. And recently researchers do include Phytochemistry and Pharmacology too. So it is difficult to put a specific word for the same.
It is very difficult to find an alternative word for pharmacognosy, because this term includes many fields of study (ethnobotany, ethnopharmacy, phytotherapy, phytochemistry and many other)
As pharmacognosy is the branch of pharmacology that deals with natural drugs I would define it as "natural pharmacology"
In German pharmacognosy is also defined as drogenkunde, that means "science of drugs".
In relation to animals I have heard it referred to as the "self selection" of beneficial natural products via inhalation or ingestion.

Indeed Pharmacognosy is very wide and getting a an alternative, all-encompassing term is problematic since it involves the study of drugs of natural origin, ranging from plants, animals, microbes including bacteria, fungi, and all other organisms
