Dear all
I hope you are doing great and healthy. My question is about the abnormally long time being taken by the peer-review process of my submitted manuscript. I submitted my article in July and although the journal speed shows that the first decision would come within 4 weeks but it's been the 5th month and the manuscript is still under review. Within this period, only the status date has changed twice. Please note that my graduation and its schedule depends upon this article. I need suggestions on what should I do in this scenario?

PS. Whenever my supervisor gets a review request from the same journal we together have always reviewed the manuscript within the given period.

Based on my experience, the journals mean the acceptance to review / fast rejection as the first decision. then, the journal's first decision was made in 1 month and they were honest. you can check the latest published papers to have a correct insight about deadlines and due dates. Also, as far as I know, the status dates usually change as a decision, a change in status or reception of a comment happens. I hope that the latter status date is related to the reception of comments of one of the reviewers.

Dear Babak Jamshidi thank you for your answer. The status of the manuscript changed to under review after three days of submission. The second thing is the journal speed of 4 weeks means the first review will come within this period. I have already published my paper in this journal and the first decision came within the mentioned period. Additionally, I have also checked the recent articles, most of them are submitted in September or October.
