I had tried several times of graphene oxide synthesis from hummer method past three months, but synthesized material confirms only Reduced graphene oxide even without adding strong reducing agent also XRD results were confirmed two theta 24 degree peak.
I want to prepare graphene oxide material for precursor to composite preparation. Kindly reply what are the controlling parameters for graphene oxide material preparation. i tried hummers and modified hummer methods.
There are various publications describing how to oxidise graphite, even films on YouTube.. Yield of the reaction is high, You get about 1.2 g of GO from 1 g of graphite. GO in the water suspension is simply yellow, it became dark grey after reduction or heating. XRD pattern may depend on stacking of graphite flakes and their size. This depends on initial graphite flakes size and on GO post processing. If You want to have smaller GO flakes, try smaller starting G flakes and longer oxidation. To increase distances between GO flakes, try the same as above and sonication.
Xrd having 24 degree peak.means that the GO.produçt is not well.oxidized.
