i used a simple mechanism to transfer the rotation motion with eccentric on the motor to linear motion. When i created a wear on my specimen with linear motion, there is a horizontal force and i wan to measure it. Here is my method but i need some opinion. I used 2 block with dimensions 8cm X 8cm X 1cm and connect them with 2 sheet metal on one side and 2 sheet metal on the opposite side. One fixed to the base and one have specimen fixed on top. When the wear is created, then top block will tend to move horizontally. Then i fixed a load cell in front of it and let the block press on it to measure the force. Can i have some recommendation?
Your idea is good to transfer the rotational motion to transnational motion, you can also use a stepper motor~ load cell is the most common sensor to measure force. Your design should works for a careful calibration of the load cell placed parallel to your design.
Try to collect info from FZG. FZG performs a lot of such tests.
