Dear Colleagues, I hope someone can provide some answer :
I recently had notified by Research Gate that ELSEVIER editorial did notified them that they needed to take one Scientific Article I had on my Research Items down, due to violation of ELSEVIER's Copyright.
This article was published on the Journal "Nano Energy", of ELSEVIER's, and I appear as the first autor.
Is there a way to keep one of this articles on your RG Items without infringing the Copyrights of ELSEVIER ?
Can I try to upload it again? This time under the "Private" mode (not open sharing, but via request)
Or it's better to leave the matter alone? Meaning that all ELSEVIER's editorial articles cannot be shared freely on Research Gate ?

Do you have a copy of what is sometime referred to as the "final submitted version?" This would be the last draft that you sent prior to the journal accepting and (possibly) editing your content? In general, that is considered yours to do with as you please, so you could place the published version with that one.
I usually don't upload the published version of a paper on RG, unless it was published open access.
When you publish, you should be aware of the copyright agreement. In many cases, the Journal retains the copyright, you sign a form to agree that.

Dear David, I suggest you read the Copyright "rules" from Elsevier, Springer, or Wiley. There you'll find plenty of information about what can you share. Actually, they have pretty nice infographics. For example https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies/sharing

Springer now has an agreement with ResearchGate for some Journals, in which the first page of the article is automatically uploaded by Springer, but the rest of the content remains with copyright.

You can freely share it if it is an open-access paper. If not, you cannot. In non-open-access, when you publish your paper, there is an agreement letter for the corresponding author to sign in, in which the authors usually transfer the copyright of the paper to the publisher. In my cases, I keep my non-open-access papers in "private mode" and send other RGers on request.
I would suggest you not keep the final published version of your papers in "private mode" since this also infringes the Copyright Agreement. I received a claim from Elsevier for a store private copy of one of my no-open access papers. Franklin Uriel Parás Hernández

It is known that when publishing an article, we give the right to disseminate it to the publishing house. However, I don't think the publisher was chasing us for making the work available to other RG participants once or twice.
