Good evening I wonder if there is a solution to sterilize my plant hydrosol without altering the compounds. The first microbiological control test showed contamination likely originating from the glassware.
Filtration is not enough - it merely removes contaminating microbes in the filtrate that will be immediately recontaminated by air, nonsterile containers, manipulation, dispensing etc.
You'll need a preservative to maintain control. Properly preserved in production, no filtration is necessary.
Mild Pasteurization Hydrosol can be heated to 65-70°C for 15-30 minutes and then rapidly cooled. This method helps eliminate microorganisms without damaging the heat-sensitive aromatic compounds.
Microfiltration Using filters with a pore size of 0.2 microns helps remove bacteria, yeasts, and molds from the hydrosol. This method preserves the chemical composition of the hydrosol without the use of heat.
