I'm interested in knowing how Madin-Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cells were originally transformed. Knowing this fact is important when studying this cell line, but I can't find this information anywhere, even the ATCC history: http://www.atcc.org/products/all/CCL-22.aspx#history. If anyone has the original paper, I'd appreciate that too (PMID: 13567776)!
P.S. I did find one (not very reliable-looking) website that suggested that these cells were spontaneously transformed (http://www.copewithcytokines.de/cope.cgi?key=MDBK).
