The photovoltaic generators can be built with the size you want and then you can condition the generated power to derive DC motors and or AC induction motors.
These types of motors can be used to work the water pumps.
Now the cost of the PV generators are went down such that they become economical in many applications including the large power electricity generation.
You can find that Gwp power stations are built in China and in USA.

The pumps in the water distribution system have different sizes according to their locations. Consequently, solar power needs are also varied led to different sizes of solar PV panel installation. Generally, the water pumps are the motor loads that can be either fed with DC or AC electricity. If the motor is to be fed with AC then an inverter is needed. If it is a DC motor then the correct size of DC power conditioning device is to be used. By the way, at the location of a pump, it is a must to have the structure to support the PV installation as well as an inverter and other necessities. The capacity of solar energy generation by the PV installation depends on the efficiency of the PV technology. Usually, the 16-19 % PV panel efficiency is found on the market today.
