Hello everyone,

I want to develop a path diagram using AMOS without latent variables. I have 13 independent variables from 3 domains (soil physical, chemical and topographical properties) and one dependent variable. I want to construct a path diagram representing most valuable and meaningful relations (direct, indirect and total effects) between independent and dependent factors.

Before this, I ran exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis using SPSS, AMOS, however the extracted factors have a mixture of all independent variables and the grouping is not meaningful (chemical factors were divided into various groups, similarly physical properties fall in multiple groups).

My independent variables include soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), nitrate, ammonium, digital elevation (DEM), slope, Pennock (Pennock landform classification), topographical wetness index (TWI), sand, silt, clay, soil volumetric moisture (SVM), soil temperature (ST).

The dependent variable is nitrous oxide (N2O) emission.

Here is my diagram of my confirmatory factor analysis and path diagram. I am interested to improve my path diagram by selecting most important variables.

In other words, i am looking for a similar solution to rotated component matrix as provided by principal component analysis.

Please share your experience. Thanks
