How to remove the NH2 and COO- groups in the capped nanoparticle?

We have synthesized a rare earth oxide nanoparticle using an organic molecule( 6-aminohexanoic acid), which consist of an amide and COOH groups, as functional molecule in the growth process (as capping agent). The nanoparticles are grown in spherical structure (10-20 nm). Is it possible to remove these fictionalized group (NH2 and COO-) from the nanoparticle? (neglecting the concerns of stabilization of nanoparticles)

For eg. NH2-NP-COO- (how to remove NH2 and COO- from this matrix.

Calcination will get rid of the NH2 and COO- as oxides but may cause increase in particle size. Choose optimum heating regime that is just good enough to eliminate them.
