I'm trying to simulate a simple patch antenna for a 5G application (28 GHz), I improved the adaptation using notches but the problem is that I have losses (the directivity = 7 and the gain equal to 2) not loss of adaptation but I think there are losses of rayonnenemt and I can not detect the cause of that !!!!
Please send me the file to verify the simulation settings or any other issue if possible only........

In some cases the directivity is good but the realized gain is poor. This is due to effect of surface wave. You have to minimize the surface wave by implementing the techniques available in literature.
Typically, SIW techniques, shorted PIN techniques are widely used to minimize the surface wave and to improve the gain.

to reduce the radiation loss you can use shielding metal layers arround the connector and the pcb.

To reduce radiation loss it is important to maximize power in main lobe and minimize power in side and back lobes
