If you had a reinforced concrete stucture what kind of analysis would you do about the crack? Would you do the smeared cracked model? Beacause I've almost finished the concrete damaged plasticity model on Abaqus and I'd like to understand what more could I do. In your opinion would be right to use crack tool on Abaqus, to see the crack propagation (contour integral, XFEM or VCCT)?What do you think about these three options?

Hi,
If you want to model a concrete element under cyclic loadings or any loading with a cyclic effects, you must use the CDP model. Because, this model enable to consider the crack opening and closing effects. That is while, you can use both of the smeared cracked and CDP model for any loading condition.
Finally, In your work, if you want to see the crack propagation in an elastic element, i propose the XFEM for you.

Abbas Ghadami Thank you. Right now I'm trying to do an XFEM analysis but it's not working. I've chosen Maxps damage ( got max principal stress and fracture energy). When creating the crack I tip on "allow crack growth" so that Abaqus find itself. But it's not working. In visualization module I'm not able to see the field utput (PHILSM and PSILsM). So do you have any suggestions? I'd like also to find some relevant literature and not only Abaqus manual or research paper.
