I'm doing a non linear analysis on a simple concrete beam using concrete plasticity damaged model to get results about cracks. The problem is that the analysis goes on with very small increments (1e-3 ;1e-5) and takes more than 10000 increments to finish. So I'd like to undestand why it assumes so small increment: the beam is meshed with 0.3x0.3 elements. I'm trying on a simple beam to pass then to a more complicated model.
So I'd like you to help me understand this problem. It is strange that an analysis on a simple beam takes more than two hours without getting any results.

Dear Pinto,
As concrete material model contains material softening, it makes the problem unstable and Abaqus standard can not converge to find the solution (att= 1u, ...) . Therefore it starts to solve that increment with smaller time increment (att= 2, ...). You should try to make the problem stable using some methods like stabilization. Another way is using quasi-static procedure instead of static procedure.

I solved the problem about the convergence. I found the parameters using some recommended research papers. Actually my aim is to analyze and understand the possible crack pattern on a reinforced concrete structure(top tower bridge). I'm doing a static-general-nonlinear analysis.
My questions right now are:
The analysis is still running and this is one of the step results.
Any suggest is well accepted.

Cracking propagation is observed by damage elements as define in the CDPM. In my opinion, the terms of "opening crack" or "close crack" are not working here.
Displacement control is easier to make your model run smoothly if General static is used.
After nonlinear analysis, force displacement relation can be considered also. Hope we have more chance to discuss about CDPM.
