yeah, the method you mentioned is called Baeyer–Drewson method and I am doing the same thing but still having trouble.

I know that there is a chapter on the extraction/preparation of "Indigo naturalis" from plants in the Chinese Pharmacopeia (for which I do not have access....maybe your institution has!). Maybe they describe more on the topic!
