I have my polysaccharide derived nanoparticles dispersed in water. I am interested in doing XRD analysis of my sample but haven't done this analysis before. Can anybody give me an insight how can I proceed with this analysis? Also is EDX analysis a better analysis in this case?
With XRD, the crystal structure of the substances is examined. Polysaccharides certainly have an amorphous structure. You will get a halo on the spectrum. The sample must be dry. Using EDX, you determine the elemental composition. Organic matter "burn" under the influence of the beams of the device.
In recommendation to Y.Mirgorod Sir, I would suggest you to completely dry your sample and spin coat on any conductive substrate like Silicon, ITO .The carbonaceous nanoparticles are generally amorphous, and the XRD spectra you will get will have broad peak, which reflects poor crystalinity.

Which physical quantity do you want to know with respect to your nanoparticles?
According to your answer you have to take the appropriate technique.
From XRD you get poor diffraction pattern (see the answers above) which most probably will show that your particles are quite amorphous, but nothing else (distinction of different molecular contributions to your polysacharide is very poor due to expected very broad XRD pattern) and with EDX you will see that your sample contains Carbon and Oxygen; but this do you know before EDX measurement.
I want to know that whether the DNA is present inside the nanoparticles or not.
