I have a set of cogenetic gabbro samples. I wish to separate zircon for U-Pb dating. Zircon is not vey common in gabbro. Then, which sample should I process first? Is there any trick or guideline? Should the whole-rock geochemical composition be a guide (e.g. the sample with highest Zr concentration, highest or lowest SiO2/P/Sc/Nb/Ti/U/Th/ REE, or any other criteria)? Or the mineralogical composition/grain size, texture (cumulate or non cumulate), etc., as noted under the microscope, help me to prioritize the samples? Researchers experienced in separating zircons from gabbro may offer some tips.
Thanks in advance
