How to perform an adsorbtion chromotography of a dye which is readily soluble in water?
i am currently using silica gel (polar) as a stationary phase and hexane (non-polar organic solvent) as a mobile phase.
but i am not getting results and having problem in seperation of my compound??
Kindly suggest please??

without any details on what you're trying to separate, it maybe hard to give an accurate advice. Nevertheless, from what you've said I would advise you to use a slightly polar solvent or better yet, an eluent like CHCl3:MeOH( 8:1 or 9:1) for starters, then work your way from there (increasing/decreasing MeOH as necessary).
Any furthers details on your setup might be helpful on advising.

from it's impurities like sodium chloride and other acid by-products and including anything that has been synthesized undesirably.

if you can't find a combination of solvent extraction that can extract your azo dye without also dragging the contaminants, maybe you should try Waters' Sep-Pak C18 Vac or something similar. You can also try diatomaceous earth (CAS 68855-54-9) which I've used a few years ago to remove CS2CO3 from a reagent mixture.

I am having the same problem trying to purify a sulfonated azo dye from its impurities and salts for chromatography. I have tried C18 and SAX (since my compound is anionic) as SPE phases and acetonitrile as solvent. Found the former will also drag most of the impurities, while SAX did not work because the compound stuck to the stationary phase and did not elute with acetonitrile. Did anything work for you?
