I am performing pushover analysis on a RCC building in SAP2000. Whenevr I model Slabs as thin-shells, beams connected to them exhibit a brittle behaviour and fail directly after the yield point. When i model slabs as membrane OR i transfer loads on to the beams without modelling slabs, the columns exhibit some unusual behaviour.
Model slab as thin shell element and assign rigid diaphragms. Moreover, check your hinge properties and the backbone curves defined whether you have defined a backbone curve with sudden fall from yield point to zero.
But then @Sibghatullah Khan, won't thin shells contribute to the overall structural stiffness without itself going into any non-linear phase?
Sibghat Ullah Khan I have modeled slabs as thin shells and assigned rigid diaphragm to them.... i haven't defined any drop in my moment curvature defined for beam and column.
