I am using abaqus to model geosynthetic encased stone column (wished in-place). I am new to abaqus so how should I model geosynthetics in 3D and 2D (solid or shell or wire ) and can I get an idea about what type of interaction should I apply in between soil- geosynthetics and geosynthetic-stone column ( in 2D and 3D ).
The purpose of the geosynthetic is to keep the stones toghter. You can use the embeded bar element to keep them toghter and enhance the friction parameters to prevent them slide to much.

In ABAQUS there is not possible to simulate the actual geometry of geosynthetics encased stone column and instead it is simulated using embedded beam element by assuming the entire column treated as rigid behave in linear elastic manner. You can use surface to surface contact element between stone column and soil to simulate interfacial behaviour b/w these two elements. I suggest you to download the paper on your topic mainly presented using ABAQUS. Literature available on this topic using ABAQUS so first collect these literature for better understanding your work..ok all the best in your research..
