Dear All,
when we model the bond-slip behavior between reinforcement and concrete in ABAQUS, should the reinforcement always be modeled as a 3D solid element.?
Is it not possible if with Wire element type, because in my model used Wire element.? if possible with Wire element type, how do I model it in ABAQUS, and what contact type should I choose.?

Hi Puji Kurniawan , in order to model reinforcements, truss element
(T3D2) are commonly used in Abaqus. You should used embedded interaction type which was assumed to create perfect bond between reinforcement and surrounding concrete to properly simulate the reinforcement-concrete bonding. It is notable that the effects usually associated with reinforcement-concrete interface, such as bond slip and dowel action are modeled indirectly by defining "tension stiffening" into the reinforced concrete model to approximately simulate load transfer across cracks through the rebar (ABAQUS© user’s manual (2014)). Note: don't forget to choose "truss" element type during meshing wire element since Abaqus by default use 3D element unless you switch to truss element . If you don't do so, you'll finally come up with bunch of error messages. More suggestion, you better watch tutorials on YouTube since there are several videos related to this topic. Good Luck!
