I am new to Fullprof and trying to perform a Rietvied analysis of a rare-earth zirconate sample. I was informed that one of the parameters to evaluate whether the results are acceptable is by looking at the chi value (chi = 1 - 2). Nevertheless, the results originate from the series of refinement. In this regard, how do we know whether all parameters we refine are acceptable?

I would like to share some knowledge about full prof refinement. Yes, if the chi-square is reduced, the experimental data is well-fitted with the standard data that you have chosen. It means that the XRD of your sample is well-fitted with the phase of the standard data.
On the other hand, if the chi-square is not in between 1-2, the phase of your sample is deviated from the phase of the standard data. Therefore, multi-phase refinement is done to reduce the chi-square value.
So, my point is that if the chi-square is not in the range 1-2 but less than 20 or near 20, we can report it. Some papers are published with a chi-square greater than 20.
I think a chi-square value near or less than 20 does not mean the refinement is not acceptable. It means that our sample's phase is deviated from the standard one which may be due to some difference in the synthesis process, chemical compositions and many other factors. This is the result that we want to get in our research i.e. modifying the previous samples for better applications. (This is my point of view. Experts can rectify my statement)
