To add to Malcolm Nobre's answer, decades ago, I was working in a completely different system [splenic fragment culture -developed by Norman Klinman] that required a hi-oxygen gas mix that NO incubator was designed to use. We used Tupperware containers that had been modified with ports to allow us to flood the container with the hi-oxygen mix. We would then seal the ports with caps and place them in 37oC incubators. Cultures were fed every 3-4 days, and the container was given a fresh hi-oxygen atmosphere, This was before the vacuum bags were available. It was workable, but not optimum. Bags would have been a significant improvement.

We have used the method to cultivate/enrich microaerophilic scuticociliates with high succes. Also Euplotes was growing well. However, strict anaerobes (scuticociliates covered by bacterial ectosymbionts, aff. Cyclidium porcatum, Isocyclidium globosum and/or Cristigera sp., and Caenomorpha sp., all probably with hydogenosomes) did not grow in such environment.
