To determine the endophyte population, first select the region of the plant that is interesting to analyze. In the case of small plants, it is usually decided to sterilize the plant surface using chemical methods [Muñoz-Rojas & Caballero-Mellado, 2003; Muñoz-Rojas et al., 2005]; For example using 2% chloramine T or 6.5% sodium hypochlorite could be used for 20 minutes in both cases. An alternative way to perform the sterilization is with fire, for it is sprayed the sample with alcohol of 96o and a spark comes on; But this method only serves for stems of high caliber and firmness like sugar cane. After surface sterilization of the plant, it has to be rinsed several times in sterile distilled water and once it has been washed and no traces of chlorine odor remain, the plant is separated in aerial part and root under sterile conditions. One gram of each region is weighed and macerated in a mortar with 9 ml of sterile distilled water. The suspension obtained has to be subjected to serial dilutions for counting
