I am preparing nanoparticles by solvent evaporation method where I am using Tween- 80 as surfactant. I am using ethyl cellulose as the polymer in acetone as organic phase and drug in 0.1 N HCl as aqueous phase. But the result of zeta potential is very poor. kindly suggest me how to minimize the particle agglomeration?
Zeta potential value depends upon what kind of polymer used in ur preparation.. to minimize zeta potential value either u hv to take such polymers which have strong cationic as well as anionic change. As examples when u use 2 eudragit due to their high potential change present in the surface it's show less zeta potential value...
Are your final nanoparticles ethyl cellulose covered with tween 80? Please describe this.
Thank you for your kind response. I guess not. But when I am putting organic phase in aqueous phase it rapidly agglomerates.

You do not describe what your nanoparticles are. Anyway it seems that you are not providing enough energy to reduce nanoparticle size. It also seems that you do not understand about steric stabilization. Please read about this.
Susanta Paul It isn't clear what you are doing. Are you forming particles in the organic phase and then adding them to the aqueous phase? If so, I'm not surprised you get aggregation. You mention 0.1N HCl - is that the aqueous phase you are using? The ionic strength (0.1M) will almost certainly aggregate any particles that don't have any other mechanism of stability other than relying on electrical charge.
Susanta Paul The pH of 0.1 M HCl (are you really still using N - normalities?) is 1.0 and thus you can't really vary the zeta potential by change of pH (one common route for charge/electrostatic stabilization). As others indicate, more description of your system is needed. As you mention 'drug' I assume that you're trying to work with a oral delivered API. I would look at absorbing the dissolved drug onto an inert substrate that could be used to stabilize the system and would be suitable for a pill/tablet. This is another form of the preferred steric stabilization. Why do you need nanoparticles if the drug is soluble? If you have a sterically stabilized system (you mention 'polymer') then zeta potential is basically an irrelevant parameter.

As I am preparing nanoparticle by taking a drug which is soluble in 0.1 N HCl and is less soluble in water, So I am adding it in 0.1 N HCl and using it as aqueous phase. Then adding polymer solution drop wise into the aqueous phase. Also my aqueous phase contains tween 80.
If you want to disperse oil-stabilized nanoparticles in water, the procedure indicated below might help. However, Tween 80 is a nonionic surfactant, so that Zeta Potential values might not improve.
Stability by steric hindrance would be possible, so that electrostatic stabilization (indicated by Zeta Potential) would not be necessary.
