I have done LC-MS of the methanolic extract of Artemisia leaves. I have got the chromatogram, but due to the unavailability of the mass library I am not able to interpret the results. How can I identify the compounds present in the extract?
The equipment where the LC-MS analysis was performed generally has software with which according to the mass they present, the fragments in case of MS/MS, the error and other values, gives you a list of probable compounds. If you cannot access the software, you can investigate which compounds have been previously reported for that plant in articles and compare their masses with the ones you have.
If you expected compounds ( previously reported), match with standard using TLC, if not you have to separate single compounds using different chromatographic methods ( MPLC, Flash, Column...) then identify by spectroscopic methods ( IR,1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT, MS and element analysis)
