Does anyone have recommendations of tools/techniques for getting the filter out of a 0.2 micron Minisart Cellulose Acetate filter unit. I've filtered water samples and want to extract DNA from the filter. I've tried using electric wire cutters to cut round the edges and then use tweezers but this seems to take a long time.
why do you need to extract the filter? Can you add the cell lysis reagents into the filter and then transfer the supernatant from the intact filter into a tube to complete the purification?
If this is the desire, I would recommend using filters meant for this task (Non-sealed), they are also cheaper I believe. You would need to obtain a filter crucible in addition, however this is reusable!
