I am trying to create a stimulation using ANSYS to find the natural frequency of a 4 ply cantilever. Each ply is 2.5mm thickness. I'm stuck at the transient structural where the shell and solid will combine. The model in the transient structural system doesn't add up to what i have created in the shell and 3D model. Attached is the geometry I created in shell, 3D Model and the schematic of my work. Please help out on this. Or is there a better schematic to find the natural frequency of the cantilever.
Dear Cheng Yang Kwa , first to get the natural frequencies of the cantilever beam, you do not need to conduct a transient analysis. Just create the shell model, import it into ACP to set up the ply orientations/properties, then link the ACP output to the modal toolbox to extract the natural frequencies. Second, for a laminated beam such as the one you've shown, it is sufficient to create a single surface body for the geometry in design modeller/SpaceClaim, then in ACP you can use that single surface body as the basis for the 4 or more plies.

Basically, The formula for calculating the natural frequency of a cantilever beam is: fn=Kn2EIgwl4 f n = K n 2 E I g w l 4 The modulus of elasticity is represented by E in the formula, while the area moment of inertia is represented by I.

Hi, Claudio Pedrazzi. This is to consider non linear data may affect the natural frequency when I will introduce delamination between the ply.
