Another idea is to use a better solvent for the dye, so it prefers the solvent over the filter paper.

I echo Amin's suggestions and also recommend use of a sintered glass funnel that has a frit. It is a more expensive option, but perhaps worthwhile if you need to perform many isolations because it does not require use of disposable filter media. The funnel contains a disc of sintered porous glass that allows liquid to pass but retains solid. Various porosities are available with different minimum particle size retentions. The frit will not absorb anionic or cationic dyes like cellulose. They are also useful if isolating dye from strongly acidic mixtures. Hi,

1. Make homogenous solution (Properly dissolve solution - diluent , temp, Mixing rate & time etc.)

2. Check chemical compatibility and adsorption with used filter MoC (Material of construction) with your dye+diluent solution.

3. If no data available on chemical compatibility screen different MOCs like

* Aqueous solution : Nylon, PES, PVDF, SS etc.

* Non - aqueous solution : PTFE, Hydrophobic PVDF and SS etc.

4. Screen the Best MOC filter with high chemical compatibility and low adsorption and high throughtput and solution recovery.
