How to extract RNA from frozen filters?

I am hoping to extract RNA from filter samples that have been snap frozen and been placed in -80 since. Previously I have used Trireagent plus Qiagen RNeasy kit as usual and it gives good quality results. How do I wash frozen cells from the filter without causing too much lysis and affecting the RNA yields. Any suggestions are welcome...

I guess the best method maybe to simply let them soak in TRIzol for a bit, even agitating the filters slightly, and then do a standard TRIzol RNA phase separation method.
