How it is possible to import big spreadsheet data to GNU R for further non-linear user defined regression analysis ?

Not mentioned in the tutorial linked by Nishal is the library "xlsx" and read.xlsx(). It reads both xls and xlsx files and does not require a Perl runtime installation.
Onother packege is "XLConnect" and the fuction readWorksheetFromFile().
