I have a dataset of a CMM surface measurements as x,y,z point coordinates. How can i process the surface dataset in Matlab and export and define it as initial surface of a body in ABAQUS in order to further run a mechanical analysis? In which format do i have to export the surface data, as meshed? My main objective is to do a contour residual stress analysis.

To solve an FE-Model Abaqus needs a so-called Input-File (.inp). This file is automatically created when you work with the graphical interface of Abaqus and start the solving process. Just look in former project of yourself. This .inp file is a text based file which uses keywords and a specific structure. For example, you can open it easily with Notepad and the structure is explained in the Abaqus Manual.
Manipulation or creation of such a txt file is simple in Matlab. Just use fprintf.
Now to your data points. Each data point is one node for the Abaqus model. If the resulting mesh is too coarse or fine you can create new data points with linear interpolation via Matlab.

If I’m not mistaken, you are talking about point cloud. First, you should import this dataset to software like CATIA and form your model with this point cloud. Then, import this created model to the ABAQUS and do whatever you want with it.
Dataset/MATLAB> CATIA> ABAQUS
