I personally think we should not encourage them to be competitive. Every student is unique. Everyone has their own strength and weakness. Everyone has different starting point in their education and life journey. Teaching them for being competitive is just making them constantly to compare to other people.

We should teach them on how to collaborate instead and how to complement each other to be able to survive in this fast-paced era. We also must teach them to be the best of themselves by encouraging them to compare themselves by their previous selves. We should push them for doing better and making progress every day by (again) NOT comparing with others but focusing more on their self development. By doing this, they can create self confidence and realize their own potentials. It is not easy because the current education system do not support this kind of environment but as teacher we must keep doing this. Nothing feel best than knowing them being successful in their own ways.
