I need a small help for my CFD simulation of combustion in Fluent. I am working on a rotary engine which has one rotor and a housing. I am using dynamic mesh while rotor rotates within housing. Due to the rotor movement, I have to keep small gap in between leading edge of rotor and housing. This causes a leakage problem. For more information, please see attachment.
Can you suggest me how can I eliminate the leakage (or the small gap) between rotor and housing ?

The solution might be the overset meshes, also called chimera mesh, which is available in Fluent from version 17. If ideal case with zero gap is fine for your case, then with slightly bigger rotor you should be able to avoid gap between rotor and housing and zero leakage.
Thank you for your response. The rotor is rotating. So for use of dynamic mesh, I can not remove the gap physically. Can you explain little bit more about chimera mesh ? Does it gonna stop the flow from the gap ?

Unfortunately, I did not get any solution for eliminating the leakage. Most of the studies try to minimize the size of the gap but I did not get any way to eliminate it completely. Although you can try to play with some properties like viscosity and pressure to reduce the leakage. For my case, I artificially increased viscosity on the back side of rotor and i was able to reduce the leakage up to some extent. I would also suggest you to try simulating with CFX, may be it has got some good features for rotary problems. I am not sure, but this is just a suggestion.

in answers is a youtube video link that is teaching overset mesh. did you test this metod or not? and another question how did you increased viscosity in a specified part of fluid? i can increase viscosity in materials part of fluent,so it is aplied to all over the mixture. is there any other way for increasing viscosity?
