Hello.
I'm going to electrodeposit Nicekl (Ni) on metal foil as working electrode. Pt electrode wil be used as counter electrode.
I will choose constant current method to electrodeposit Ni.
How can I set up these system to uniformly deposit Ni and to reduce hydrongen elvoltion recation on the working electrode?
Pt electrode surface area is important?
The distance between working and counter electode is important?
I have no experience about electrodeposition.

Plating uniformity depend on electrolyte for deposition and as a common rule from form of detail, from a cathode-anode distance as well.
Please refine your question. What electrolyte do you have? What detail's shape? What a uniformity value do you planning to reach? Note, that usually Ni plating is porous. Thus, if you need plating without pores, you should make multilayered Ni plating.

There are lots of method for electrodeposition of metal (i.e. nickel) using CV and CA techniques. However, please use spring shaped-Pt wire for counter electrode and the distance between working and counter electrode may not be affected (just make sure no contact/touch each other).

If you need to reduce the HER it is necessary bubbling (passing) the nitrogen gas in an electrochemical cell to eliminate the hydrogen reduction as well must be use the constant voltage for the deposition process. And I attached file about your question.

Well the matter entirely depends on the type of electrolytes and pH ,
Many researches have been achieved for electrodeposition of nickel from acid and ammonium electrolytes, the deposition from ammonium electrolyte give better deposition with higher current efficiency

You can find out the answer for your question by using pourbaix diagram for Nickle and I think it’s better for you to get which potential you will use in order to deposit the Nickle
