How to effectively adjust the pH value of trivalent chromium bath to 1.5? I used 0.5M H2SO4 and 0.5M NaOH to adjust the pH, but it seems need to add in a lot of solution to reach pH1.5. What should i do to improve it? Increase the molarity of NaOH and H2SO4? Have any suggestions?
0.5 M NaOH require 0.25 M H2SO4 in this case the pH is 7 and to make the pH 1.5 it means you have to increase the Molarity of the acid to 10^-1.5 ie to 0.03116 M , the final reaction iis 0.5 M NaOH + (0.25+0.03116) M H2SO4
I Think that you must add progressively drop on concentrated acid (hydrochloric or sulfuric) 0.5M or 1M in this solution. If by error the pH value is low than that expected, use drop of NaoH for increase. In the solutions, Strong acids lower the pH while strong base increase it
By using 0.5M sulphuric acid in the bagh with carefully and check the pH regular basis. Your prepare Chrom bath by using Potassium dichromate which is neutralize the pH of the bath. So you add 0.5M sulphuric acid in the bath
