Fully agree with Sunil Kumar. Please note that for GCMS, sample should be volatile. If it is not, then you have to process to make it volatile as suggested above.
As pointed out by others never inject water based samples into GCMS that will break your column and detector.
For extraction of the volatile components in the sample tissue, start with non polar solvents and proceed with solvents of increasing polarity (follow snyder index). After extraction in each solvent make dry your thimble packed sample. After collecting the extract , evaporate the solvent by vacuum evaporation/nitrogen evaporation or other facilities in your lab, then inject the sample (1-2 microlitre) into the GC.
thank you for your replies, i have disssolved aqueous extracts in methanol for GC-MS, what is the minimum quantity of extract required for injection in GC-MS, i m using 1mg/ml is it enough? or as mentioned by Kusham at least 5mg is limited?
