I suppose that you produced a specific protein in Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cells and want to inactivate the cells before the obtention of the protein. Conventionally, you could try an inactivation with hot water or steam, but maybe you're concerned about the possibility of a thermodegradation of the protein. Maybe you could try to use freeze-drying to inactivate the yeast cells, thus removing all the water. This method does not cause thermal degradation related to thermal-based methods like hot water or steam.
