There is no database for compound identification in my case, so I need to observe particular set of m/z. An XIC should give particular set of m/z ions for substrate identification. But more than one XIC often give the same set of required m/z ions ( however not all the m/z are exactly same) making it confusion for the conclusion.
Hi Badri, there are some software which will help distinguishing your compound m/z to that of a noise.
Considering that your experimental design had a blank without your analyte i.e. if you had some solvent to prepare your sample you must have a spectra for your solvent that can be used a s blank, this won't be a problem
I doubt if you are targeting parent ion (equivalent to molecular weight) of baseline resolve single compound. Simply, m/z does not make a sense because each compound if ionized under EI condition generates several m/z ions (which is collectively known as mass spectrum). As a consequence, the most stable peak among these ions is called base peak. Hence, In my opinion, you should first identify parent ion of each of your baseline separated peak (ideally a single compound). Please note that while generating mass spectrum of a peak, you need to subtract baseline effect (baseline subtraction tool) so that a much cleaner spectrum obtained.
