I have measured a repeated lunge movement in different shoe conditions and occasionally some muscles had unusually large activation spikes in certain footwear conditions (see attached for gastrocnemius medialis).

This shoe used was more unstable, but the difference between contractions seems unrealistically large. Does anyone have any advice for how to determine if EMG data is of poor quality and what reasons there may be for this?

The signal has been processed by: removing the DC offset, full wave rectified and then smoothed using a root mean square algorithm with a 100ms window.
