During the simulation of FSW joints for tensile testing, how one can model the weld line different from base metals?
As we know that there are zones like TMAZ, HAZ and WZ along with base metal after the FSW welding. Will it be preferable to consider same properties for TMAZ and HAZ ?

TMAZ is thermo-mechanically worked zone while HAZ is exposed to heat only. Strain build up is expected in TMAZ. Weld zone is a recrystallized volume of metal that must have undergone phase transformation depending on the transformation characteristics of the material in question. Hence, it may not be prudent to assume same properties. However, intrinsic properties like modulus and poison's ratio would be expected to be the same.

We are currently doing a research on almost same problem, the difference is that we are using STICK welding process. Different zones in STICK welding are more prominent and residual stress values are high.
Attached is an ABAQUS .cae file which I developed for this numerical simulation. This was generally for crack propagation simulation. But you will get an idea that the component has been partitioned and different material properties and predefined fields have been used to develop a realistic model.
